Jazz Ensembles

Original Compositions

Anthropoidea (2015)

Composition for jazz ensemble that features alto saxophone and guitar in a quasi-hip hop/funk style that errs on the intellectual side of groove. Recorded by the One O' Clock Lab Band on Lab 2015.

Recipient of a Downbeat Student Music Award in 2016 for "Outstanding Graduate Large Jazz Ensemble Composition."

Integrality (2014)

Calm and straight eighth composition featuring flugelhorn and guitar. Recorded by the TCU Jazz Ensemble.

Lonely Woman (2016)

Smash and burn style arrangement of the transcendental tune by Ornette Coleman, originally from his album The Shape of Jazz To Come. To be released on the upcoming Lab 2016! Stay tuned!

Trinkle Tinkle (2016)

An arrangement of the wild Thelonius Monk tune originally recorded alongside John Coltrane. The spirit of the arrangement is wild and unpredictable, going all over the place sonically. To be released on the upcoming Lab 2016! Stay tuned!

Quicksilver (2016)

A contrapuntal tour of the Horace Silver bebop head, breaking each motive down and building the melody back up from scratch. Features alto or tenor saxophone. Recording from my masters' recital, with upcoming recording to be released from Lab 2016.

Just Friends (2012)

Latin setting of the jazz standard as a feature for lead trombone. Performed/commissioned by Andy Martin and the Rebel Alliance Jazz Ensemble.
